Banff Adventure Styling Guide

Adventure Sessions are some of my favourite ways to spend time with my clients!

I want to make your time planning for this as easy as possible so have put together this Banff Adventure Styling Guide for you two and packed it with all my best secrets for getting the best out of your experience.
My goal is to create images that are natural, candid, fun, and represent you as a couple.

This is definitely not a rule book. At the end of the day, the location you choose and outfits you select won’t matter nearly as much as the memories you make together.

I want you to relax and enjoy your adventure session. Laugh a lot. I will take care of the rest!

CHOOSING TIME & DATE

I LOVE natural light because natural light from the sun and its reflections, creates photographs that feel fresh, timeless and true to you as a couple.

I begin all sessions 90 minutes before the scheduled sunset during “the golden hour,” when the light is the dreamiest. We already have your date set in your contract, so all we have to do now is use a sunset calculator online to determine the scheduled sunset for the date and location you’d like to do your session. Then, just subtract 90 minutes to figure out your start time.

Remember, the sun sets much earlier during the colder months of the year and much later during the warmer months, so make sure to factor that in when choosing your engagement session date, especially if you’re taking time off work or have evening plans afterward.

To get the most out of your session, please plan a buffer when getting ready so you can arrive a few minutes early to our meeting spot.

If you’re wearing two outfits, save your favourite one for the second half, and if you’re wearing only one, arrive in that.

TRAVELING: I love to travel and am on the road quite a bit. For Jasper, Banff, Kananaskis, Nordegg, Yoho, Wateron & Glacial National Parks, always take in consideration extra travel time, weather and road conditions!

STYLE TIPS FOR COUPLES

Perhaps the best part of adventure sessions is that you get to really just be yourself! It is so important to be authentic to who you really are – if you are looking for a more laid back experience or something glammed up in the mountains, it is all okay as long as it is true to you! Often my couples are traveling to Banff National Park on vacation or camping trips, and do not have outfits with them – there is nothing wrong with wearing a plaid shirt and jumper to your session.

BUT

Have you ever imagined rocking a sequinned gown, long tulle skirt or suit in the mountains, but just never had an occasion for it? If you want, this is your chance to do it up! There are some great website resources like Lulus and Asos are both super great options for buying inexpensive outfits that look great, but if they end up getting stained or ripped during your adventure session, it is okay. I have even had clients have luck on their local Facebook Marketplace for a few gem outfits!

A note on colour: Solid shades of grey or navy are a strong choice, but if have a passion for reds, yellows or purples, let your personality shine!

As long as you are wearing something that makes you feel great, with flattering silhouettes and colours the compliment your natural features

GO PRO! Professional hair & makeup is always a fun add-on to a session – if you need a recommendation for hair and makeup, we work with the best in the business and have a great go-to team! They’re sweet as pie, talented as heck, unbelievable professionals and wonderful people. You’ll LOVE them! Just let us know and we’ll send you their information. We know they’ll take good care of you!

A FEW LAST TIPS…

-Avoid clothes that might show bra straps or tags. It is very limiting and stifling when we have to keep ensuring that these are not showing
-Avoid clothes with logo or branding

Quick Tip: Wear your hiking boots to your session – but feel free to bring a pair of flats to wear. Your feet will thank you later!

I hope you enjoyed this Banff Adventure Styling Guide and that it was helpful during your planning process!

I believe in adventure; in getting our feet dirty; and in rolling around in the sand.

So let’s run away together – hike up a mountain, go on a road trip, camp at a lake.

Just be your true self, have fun and let me remind you how to be wild at heart – because all your moments matter.
